NIA CEO HOSTS THE PS IRRIGATION FOR AN INSPECTION OF GALANA KULALU FOOD SECURITY PROJECT

Today, the Chief Executive Officer of the National Irrigation Authority, Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, together with other NIA officials hosted the Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS accompanied by high-level delegation of government officials and private investors for an inspection tour of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project.

The visit provided an opportunity to assess the progress of key support infrastructure that are critical to the project’s implementation, including the intake works, solar power plant installation and the bridge. The solar power plant is intended to convert the pumping station from diesel to solar and reduce the cost of operation while the bridge will facilitate easier access to the farm for delivery and evacuation of inputs and produce.

The inspection also offered a platform for reviewing milestones achieved, addressing implementation challenges and reinforcing the Government’s commitment to accelerating the optimization of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project. The Project remains a flagship initiative aimed at enhancing irrigated agriculture, increasing food production, creating employment opportunities and strengthening Kenya’s food and nutrition security through sustainable irrigation development.

The National Irrigation Authority remains committed to developing, coordinating and managing sustainable irrigation services for socio-economic development in Kenya as espoused in Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
