THE AUTHORITY CEO ENG. CHARLES MUASYA, MBS INSPECTION VISIT TO THE GWA KIONGO EARTH DAM PROJECT

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Irrigation Authority Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS together with the management and senior staff today conducted an inspection visit to the Gwa Kiongo Earth Dam Project in Mirangine Ward, Ol Kalou Constituency, Nyandarua County, while also engaging the local community through a public participation forum.

The engagement provided an opportunity for residents and project beneficiaries to share their views as the Authority reaffirmed its commitment to inclusive project implementation.

During the visit, the CEO assessed the progress of the ongoing works, including the construction of the pump house, the planned reticulation system, water storage tanks, spillway expansion, and the installation of a solarized pumping unit. It was noted that pipes have already been delivered to the site, with the contractor mobilizing materials for the next phase of construction.

The Gwa Kiongo Earth Dam Project will irrigate 250 acres of land, directly benefiting 1,000 households through increased agricultural productivity, improved food security and enhanced livelihoods.

The CEO emphasized the importance of timely completion of the project, continued stakeholder engagement and capacity building for beneficiaries to ensure the sustainable management and long-term success of the irrigation project.

Once completed, the project is expected to create employment opportunities, strengthen food and nutrition security, promote wealth creation through agricultural value chains and support the Government’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
