MWEA IRRIGATION SCHEME CONDUCTED IWUA RE-ELECTIONS

The Mwea Irrigation Scheme conducted IWUA re-elections today, 19 February 2026, under the supervision of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), with logistical support from the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) to ensure a transparent and credible process for Line and Unit Leaders.

The re-elections were held in Tebere (T23/24) for Unit Leader, T10 for Unit Leader, T8 Line A, Line B, Line C and Line F for Line Leaders, T11 Line B and Line C for Line Leaders, and Cumbiri 2 for Unit Leader. Security personnel were deployed across the polling areas, and IEBC poll officers were dispatched with election materials to safeguard the integrity of the exercise and facilitate smooth voting by eligible farmers and water users.

The re-elections form part of efforts to strengthen participatory water governance, enhance accountability and improve irrigation management within the scheme.

With the successful election of Line and Unit leaders across all the sections in the scheme, vetting and verification of candidate for the executive committee will be done tommorrow in readiness for their election on Monday, February 2026. The vetting and approval process of the candidates will commence immediately after a joint meeting for all the successful Unit leaders tomorrow at NIA mwea offices as from 8.00am.
