CHIEF OF STAFF AND HEAD OF THE PUBLIC SERVICE MR. FELIX K. KOSKEI VISIT TO THE GALANA KULALU IRRIGATION PROJECT

Today, the Chief of Staff and Head of the Public Service Mr. Felix K. Koskei, E.G.H accompanied by the Principal Secretary State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS and the Principal Secretary for Arid and Semi-Arid Lands (ASALs), Mr. Harsama Kello visited the Galana Kulalu irrigation project to assess the production progress by the Private Investor.

Currently the private Investor Selu Ltd has planted high-yield seed maize varieties DK*777 and 9089 in 660 acres.

Cropping is ongoing and will progressively increase to 3,200 acres by August, 5,000 acres by February 2026 and ultimately 12,000 acres.

In the long-term, the project targets 200,000 acres after construction of a dam. The main crop will be maize for food security and animal feed among others.

Once it’s fully implemented, the project will enable production of sufficient maize, create employment opportunities and support the Government’s targets on food security under the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA).
