PRESIDENT’S INSPECTION OF THE GALANA KULALU FOOD SECURITY PROJECT.
Today H.E. Hon. William Samoei Ruto, PhD., CGH. President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-In-Chief of the Kenya Defense Forces undertook a detailed inspection of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project (GKFSP) in Kilifi and Tana River Counties.
He was received by the Coast Regional Commissioner Rhoda Onyancha, Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho CBS, the Authority’s Chairman of the Board Eng. Gilbert Maluki, the Chief Executive Officer, Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, other senior government officials; and representatives from the private investor and contractor involved in the project under Public-Private Partnership (PPP) framework.
The president inspected the completed intake and conveyance infrastructure, including an intake well, a 450,000 cubic meter reservoir, a 1,210-meter outlet canal, and a 14-pump sump. Completion of this infrastructure development marks a crucial step, paving the way for crop production by the private investor.
The Galana Kulalu Project is strategically aligned with the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA), aiming to bolster national food security by optimizing productivity through targeted investments in both crop and livestock production.
Its successful implementation is anticipated to not only significantly enhance national food security but also generate substantial employment opportunities, elevate income levels for local communities thereby improving their socio-economic well-being and stimulate the growth of agro-based industries by ensuring a consistent supply of raw materials.
