Exciting Milestone for Rice Farmers in the Western Kenya Irrigation Schemes!

Today marks a new chapter as Western Kenya Rice Mills Ltd, a subsidiary of the National Irrigation Authority, a private investor- Upland crop limited and the County Government of Kisumu officially signed a lease agreement to operationalize the newly installed rice mill in Ahero, Kisumu County.

This partnership symbolizes a major step towards revitalizing rice processing in the region, creating jobs, boosting the local economy and empowering farmers with better market access and value addition opportunities. This new mill will increase milled rice in the market and help bridge the rice production deficit in Kenya, as espoused in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).
