CS VISIT TO MARUGUA RIDGE IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT PROJECT.

On March 28, 2025, the Cabinet Secretary for the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, Eng. Eric Mugaa inspected the Maragua Ridge Irrigation Development Project in Murang’a County. He was accompanied by the Majority Leader of the Kenya National Assembly, Hon. Kimani Ichung’wah and nominated Member of Parliament, Hon. Sabina Chege.

He expressed his satisfaction with the work done by the farmers and encouraged them to form cooperatives to maximize the benefits of agribusiness and improve market access for their produce through County Aggregation and Industrial Parks.

Currently, the project has placed 400 acres under irrigation, to benefit 848 farmers. Its benefits include improved food security and the creation of 4,240 direct jobs and 8,480 indirect jobs.

he project’s agricultural enterprises include the cultivation of pineapples and horticultural crops such as tomatoes, cabbage, spinach, lettuce, onions, carrots, baby corn, and capsicums, among others.
