THE PS, STATE DEPARTMENT FOR IRRIGATION, ON AN INSPECTION TOUR TO MIDP PACKAGE 2
Today the Principal Secretary; State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, conducted a field tour to the Mwea Irrigation Development Project ( MIDP) package 2- Lot 1 and 2 to inspect its construction progress as well as assess the effects of floods on the project.
He was received by the National Irrigation Authority CEO, Eng. Charles Muasya MBS and other senior officers from the Authority.
The PS was happy with the progress of works and urged the contractors to burn midnight oil to finalize the project, working with the projected timelines of November 30, 2024. He added that completion of the project will come in handy in bridging the rice deficit gap in Kenya.
MIDP package 2 – Lot 1 which entails construction of civil of works of irrigation facilities, undertaken by Joycot General Contractors is at 41% implementation status.
Lot 2 which involves construction of drainage facilities and other works, undertaken by Mutahi Engineering Services is at 61% implementation status. The overall completion status is 75%.
The Authority is committed to complete this project to boost rice production in Kenya and support Economic growth.
