Today Morning, the Authority’s Chairman of the Board Eng. Gilbert Maluki held a consultative meeting with Globaltec Limited team (a Spanish firm) which consisted of the firm’s Chairman Mr. Valero Artola, and two country representatives Maina Muregi and James Makau to discuss potential opportunities for collaboration between Globaltec Limited and NIA. The chairman was joined in the meeting by Deputy General Manager, Research, Planning and Strategy Eng. Vincent Kabuti,OGW and Chief Engineer Eng. Henry Ochiere among other officers.
The Authority’s team presented key opportunities including water management at the schemes to ensure water use efficiency; large scale non-dam projects which could be financed through PPP, Bilateral or Multilateral arrangements; Community Irrigation projects which can be implemented through cofinancing arrangements; water harvesting projects and solarization of water abstraction.
The team from Globaltec Limited was impressed with the plethora of options presented to them. They expressed interest in collaborating with NIA towards the development of irrigation projects. They were particularly interested in small scale dams- energy nexus, and water management at the schemes.
The Authority is committed to partnering with private parties to accelerate irrigation expansion in Kenya for enhanced food production in line with the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
