NATIONAL IRRIGATION AUTHORITY JOINS THE COUNTRY IN CELEBRATING 28TH AFRICA PUBLIC SERVICE DAY.

National Irrigation Authority joins the Country in celebrating the 28th Africa Public Service Day. The theme of this year is Celebrating Public Service Transformation: Ten-year journey and beyond.

The Authority has walked the Journey in building resilience among communities with an aim of enhancing food production through construction of irrigation infrastructure across the country.

Some of the innovations embraced by the Authority is precision farming in the model farms. This entails improvement of farming efficiency especially input application at plant root zone.

The National Irrigation Authority has tested out modern farming techniques in the Galana Kulalu Model farm in order to ensure efficiency and maximum output from the farm. Some of these include saving on irrigation water-use by employing minimum tillage, use of tensiometers, and flat-fan-Center-Pivot-end nozzles. Minimum tillage ensures increased soil water infiltrability and reduced soil crusting, use of tensiometers ensures timely water application to the plant when needed while the use of flat-pan-Center-Pivot-end nozzles reduces non-uniformity on crop edges.

The Authority has also applied aflasafe in Hola and Bura Irrigation Schemes among other projects to ensure production of aflatoxin free maize. These innovations among others are meant to assist farmers produce high yields that meet both human and market quantity and quality food and nutrition as well as business and health needs.
