AUTHORITY TAPS SOCIAL JUSTICE AND INCLUSIVENESS TO FIGHT POVERTY
National values promote positive interaction among people tied to societal norms, attitudes and ways of doing things. In this issue, we focus on social justice and inclusiveness.
While these values are often cited, how many times do citizens notice and use them in everyday activities?
According to the National Cohesion and Integration Commission, a State agency, social justice covers the enjoyment of rights that enhance well-being and promote solidarity. It is fairness in service delivery, distribution of wealth, opportunities, and privileges. It means that everyone has equal opportunities and everyone’s rights are respected and protected. This, however, doesn’t guarantee a perfect society but everyone will always be happy. Everyone should have a fighting chance while pursuing their goals.
Inclusiveness, on the other hand, entails affording people, including the minority groups and the physically/mentally challenged, an opportunity to participate in activities that affect their lives. Everyone should feel they are honoured, not alienated or excluded.
How National Irrigation Authority promotes social justice and inclusiveness
The National Irrigation Authority is implementing various irrigation projects without bias to particular groups in a bid to ensure every irrigable acre has water. These projects go a long way in creating employment opportunities and a source of livelihood to Kenyans. In addition, the Authority has equipped some staff to attend to customers with special abilities to guarantee every citizen access to services.
The Authority actively involves relevant stakeholders in the implementation of various projects across the country, hence promoting inclusiveness. All these efforts are directed at finally curbing poverty and economic injustice, one seed at a time. And thus the cycle begins. You, your neighbour, stronger relationships and the promise of a meal at the end of the day.
