CS Distributes Fruit Tree Seedlings and other Charitable Donations Courtesy of NIA in Nairobi County.
CS Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Sicily K. Kariuki (Mrs), EGH accompanied by Water Secretary Eng Alima, Chair NIA Hon. Eng. Joshua Toro, CEO NIA Gitonga Mugambi, and CEO Water Trust Fund and other senior officers from the Ministry and Water Sector institutions today launched the distribution and planting of fruit tree seedlings at Nyumba Ya Wazee in Kasarani Constituency, Nairobi County. The fruit tree seedlings is an initiative by the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation, after H.E the President gave a directive that all parastatals set aside 10% of their Corporate Social Responsibility budget towards tree planting.
Today CS flagged off Lorries distributing trees to Kiambu, Kajiado, Kirinyaga, Baringo and Machakos Counties. She planted the first Hass Avocado seedling at the Nyumba ya Wazee farm. She also donated food stuffs, sanitizers and gloves worth about 300,000 courtesy of National Irrigation Authority and Water Trust Fund to the home which is taking care of 74 elderly people. So far, 360,000 fruit tree seedlings have been planted and the Ministry plans to distribute 800,000 seedlings to farmers across all the counties in liaison with county commissioners during this rainy season. This is in line with the Big 4 agenda on food and nutrition security as well as increasing household income.
