H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta toured Mwea Rice Mills (MRM) in Kirinyaga County on Feb 1, 2020. He was accompanied by CS, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries and Cooperatives Hon. Peter Munya, EGH, Kirinyaga County Governor Hon. Ann Waiguru, EGH, among other leaders.

He was received by the Principal Secretary, Ministry of Water & Sanitation and Irrigation Mr. Joseph W. Irungu, CBS, National Irrigation Authority Chairman Hon. Eng. Joshua Toro and CEO Mr. Gitonga Mugambi.

He inspected rice milling process in the factory and issued KShs. 500 Million to buy paddy from rice farmers in Kenya at a cost of Kshs. 85 per kg in an effort to ensure ready and stable markets for rice farmers. He concluded the visit by flagging off the first batch of lorries carrying paddy rice to Kenya National Trading Corporation.

With this move, rice farmers across the country are set to realize massive profits from farming activities, achieve economic sustainability and empowerment as anticipated in the Big 4 four agenda and Kenya Vision 2030.
