NIA CELEBRATES MAZINGIRA DAY.
In response to the President’s directive on national environmental restoration, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) marked this year’s Mazingira Day in a tree growing exercise at Ngong Township Primary School.
The NIA’s leadership, led by the Board Chairman Eng. Gilbert Maluki, CEO Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, Board Members and staff accompanied the Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, and other senior government officials.
This continuous involvement in tree growing is central to the NIA’s CSR strategy and is a direct contribution towards the national goal of achieving a minimum of 30 percent forest cover by 2033.
The selection of trees varieties grown today underscores a multi-faceted approach to not only aid in reducing gas emissions and combating climate change, but also provide long-term benefits of food security and income generation for the school and the wider community.
Through such activities, the Authority is bridging its core function with the vital task of environmental stewardship.
