CEO INSPECTS MWEA IRRIGATION SCHEME AND MWEA IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT PROJECT (MIDP) IN KIRINYAGA COUNTY.

On July 31, 2024, National irrigation Authority Chief Executive Officer Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS led a team of the management on a visit to Mwea Irrigation Scheme and Mwea Irrigation Development Project (MIDP) in Kirinyaga County for an inspection tour.

During the morning hours, the team held a meeting with members of staff where the CEO emphasized to the staff on strict adherence to Government austerity measures, strict public financial management and accountability, efficient service delivery and integrity.

After the meeting, the team toured Mwea Irrigation Development Project (MIDP) inspecting the progress of works in Lot 1 and Lot 2. Lot 1 (Construction of civil works of irrigation facilities). Lot I is at 41,% complete while lot II is at 77% completion.

The CEO put the contractors on Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) to ensure speedy execution of the remaining works within the agreed timelines.

The team later held a meeting with the scheme management leaders and key stakeholders on scheme sustainability with key emphasis being collection and prudent management of Operation and Maintenance (O&M) fees. In order to ensure scheme sustainability, the management engaged the leaders on the need to review O&M rates in line with the irrigation act as it has been done in all other schemes.
