Lower Sabor Irrigation Development Project is located in Tembelion Location, Moiben Sub-location, Eldoret East Sub County in Uasin Gishu County. The Authority has developed irrigation infrastructure on 1,200 acres to benefit 2,000 farmers. The project draws its water from River Chepkoilel. The crops grown in the project include cabbages, tomatoes, onions, kales, coffee, avocado, indigenous vegetables.

The project components are:

  • Increased Agricultural Productivity: Farmers reported a huge increase in crop yields due to reliable water supply.
  • Improved Livelihoods: Over 2,000 households have benefited from the project, with many farmers now able to cultivate high-value crops.
  • Water Use Efficiency: The introduction of drip and sprinkler systems reduced water wastage and ensured efficient use of available resources.
  • Environment conservation through tree planting at the water intake in Kaptagat forest.

The project components are:

  • Intake works to off take 196l/s for irrigation of the entire scheme
  • Main line
  • Conveyance system for 4 No. sub branches
  • Distribution system for 6No. distribution lines
  • Infield system for 750 No. farmers
