NIA AND NYS SIGN MOU TO ADVANCE YOUTH EMPOWERMENT AND SUSTAINABLE IRRIGATION DEVELOPMENT

Earlier today, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Youth Service (NYS) to strengthen collaboration in promoting food security, youth empowerment and sustainable agricultural development.

The five-year partnership will focus on land leasing within NIA Irrigation Schemes, provision of machinery support, security services, youth attachment and training opportunities and joint agro-processing initiatives to enhance value addition and productivity.

The MoU was signed by Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, the Authority’s Chief Executive Officer, in the presence of the Board Chairman; Eng. Gilbert Maluki, Mr. James K. Tembur, MBS, Commandant General of NYS and Lt. Gen. (Rtd) Adan K. Mulata NYS chairman.

This collaboration reaffirms both Institutions’ commitment to strengthening irrigation development and empowering Kenyan youth in agribusiness.
