CS TREASURY TOURS GALANA KULALU FOOD SECURITY PROJECT

Today, the National Irrigation Authority (NIA) CEO, Eng. Charles Muasya, hosted the Cabinet Secretary for National Treasury and Economic Planning, Hon. FCPA John Mbadi Ng’ongo, during his tour of the Galana Kulalu Food Security Project. The CEO was joined by the PS State Department for Irrigation CPA Ephantus Kimotho and other senior government officials.

The visit highlights the critical success of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with the first seed maize crop planted by SELU Limited, the lead private investor being ready for harvest. This effort is poised to deliver a sustainable, high-quality seed supply, yielding hundreds of thousands of bags annually.

CS Mbadi was very impressed with the progress achieved at the project, and thanked the Private investor and the National Irrigation Authority for the good job done so far. He affirmed that the Government will continue supporting the project to ensure it is delivered successfully for enhanced food production in Kenya.

The Galana Kulalu Project is a key pillar of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), beyond agriculture, the project is driving inclusive growth through job creation, stimulating rural economies and agro-industrial development and fostering broader collaboration with partners like KeRRA, REREC, and KWS to ensure long-term success and economic resilience. This is a testament to the power of public-private collaboration in tackling national challenges.
