INSPECTION VISIT OF THE MUTAITIN MATURA WATER PAN IN KAJIADO COUNTY.


Today, the National Irrigation Authority hosted PS, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS during his inspection visit of the Mutaitin Matura Water Pan in Kajiado West Constituency, Kajiado County.

He was accompanied by PS, State Department for Higher Education and Research, Dr. Beatrice Inyangala, CBS and Area MP Hon. George Sunkuiya.

He was received by the Chairman of the Board, Eng. Gilbert Maluki, the Authority’s CEO, Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS and other officials from the Authority.

The Rehabilitation works of the 60,000 cubic meter water pan is currently 85% complete and expected to create 175 jobs directly and 350 jobs indirectly.

Additionally, it is expected to safeguard against climate change adversaries, enhance food security and support the manufacturing industries.

The National Irrigation Authority is implementing several irrigation projects across Kajiado County.

Currently, the Authority has done 16 community water pans with a cumulative storage capacity of 1,135,000 cubic meters with a potential to irrigate 756 acres in the county.

Additionally, the Authority, has constructed 357 household water pans through the Household Irrigation Water Storage Project with a cumulative storage capacity of 700,981 cubic meters with a potential to irrigate 701 acres and 7 small holder irrigation projects which once complete will put 8,650.9 acres under irrigation.

The Authority continues to implement irrigation projects for a food secure and prosperous nation in line with the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.
