VISIT BY SHANGHAI CONSTRUCTION GROUP CO., LTD (SCG)

The National Irrigation Authority hosted the Principal Secretary, State Department for Irrigation, CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, accompanied by other officials from the State Department for Irrigation, and Shanghai Construction Group Co., Ltd (SCG), led by the Group President Mr. Ye Weidong.

They were received by Chief Executive Officer, National Irrigation Authority (NIA), Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS, and other senior officials from the National Irrigation Authority at the NIA Headquarters, Irrigation House.

The meeting focused on the Shanghai Construction Group expression of Interest to partner with the Authority on water harvesting and storage through the construction of major dams. During the discussions, the delegation expressed interest in the Radat Dam project in Baringo County.

The National Irrigation Authority, in partnership with the State Department for Irrigation, has prioritized the development of several strategic dams, including Radat. Once completed, the Dam is expected to significantly alleviate water shortages in Baringo County while boosting water storage capacity and support expansion of area under irrigation to over 50,000 acres, supporting food production and livelihoods in the region.

The Authority reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the Government’s goal of enhancing food production through sustainable and large-scale water storage projects as espoused in the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda.
