On January 31, 2024, His Excellency the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya Hon. Rigathi Gachagua officially launched the construction of Matasia (silanga) irrigation project in Kajiado North Constituency, Kajiado County.
He was received by Kajiado County deputy Governor Hon. Martin Moshisho Martine, Principal Secretary State Department for Irrigation CPA Ephantus Kimotho, CBS, several members of Parliament, Senators and National Irrigation Authority Chief Executive Officer Eng. Charles Muasya, MBS.
Matasia (silanga) Irrigation Project located in Kajiado North Constituency will involve reservoir excavation, installation of pressure tank and solar pumping systems, spillway construction, protection works and fencing and reticulation works.
The project will be implemented in 6 calendar months and will have 120 households direct beneficiaries and 600 persons indirect beneficiaries.
After completion, maize, beans, horticultural crops and vegetables will be grown by farmers hence contributing to household food security and increase export in line with Agricultural Transformation of the BeTA plan.
After launching the project, the Deputy President commended the good work being done by National Irrigation Authority of providing and coordinating sustainable development and management of irrigation services in Kenya which contributes to food security in line with Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BeTA)
